Every great society, beginning with the first quasi Democracy which rose in Greece circa 500 B.C. held objective moral standards in their codes of public laws and in their secular ethics. In Senatorial Rome, prior to the reign of Julius Caesar, objective moral fundamentals both in private and public life transformed Rome from a small provincial town on The Tiber to an astonishing Empire which circled the Mediterranean by the First Century A.D.
It was not until the citizenry of ancient Greece and Rome created their own interpretations of "eternal laws" that these kingdoms collapsed. Even after Christianity in Rome came to be the official religion of The Empire in 313 A.D. under Constantine, the Roman citizenry became more and more decadent, insisting on a subjective code of morals. One hundred years later Rome as an empire was no more.
The objectivity of the "eternal laws" are written into both the hearts and conscious minds of all men, and when they are compromised by moral subjectivity, either by individuals or by their governments, the destruction of those societies are inevitable. In today's America subjective morality has become the norm in both the public and private sectors. Ever since the 1920's when "anti-Americanism" was first touted as "liberalism" there has been an ever widening fissure within the moral foundation of The United States.
With the hostile involvements of The United States' military in such foreign affairs as The Korean Conflict and especially with the over 10 year debacle in South East Asia, discontent among the younger citizens of The U.S. produced, especially in the late 1960's, an enormous rebellion against the objective moral codes which were held sacred by most older Americans and which were the root cause of the success of The United States which brought this nation to its superpower status by the late 1940's.
As the early 1970's came into being a massive lack of respect for the sanctity of human life made its way into The Supreme Court of The United States in 1973 with the decision to decriminalize abortion in the case of Roe Vs. Wade.
As of January, 2014, there have been over 56 million abortions executed since The 1973 Roe Vs. Wade Supreme Court decision.
This is the most grievous consequence of the rise of subjective morality in The U.S. and in The Western World, yet it is far from being the only one. Our places of worship are being abandoned in favor of a "do as you will" philosophy which can be traced back in modern times to the writings of the 19th Century German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer.
If the current path of subjective morality is not amended and abandoned The United States as well as most of Western Europe will join the pitiful ranks of powers which no longer exist.
